Niagara Falls

A couple weeks ago we went to Niagara Falls. It was very crowded, we were stuck in traffic for a
while, but we got the last parking spot. It was great! We saw all sorts of cool things in a big building, like pics of when they first discovered Niagara falls. When we were standing on the fist viewing spot we saw tourists on boats. Then these nice people gave directions to a better view, and it was better. I felt like I was on top on the falls. After that when we were walking back we all got one thing from a gift shop. I got a keychain, and my sisters got a snow globe, and a slinky. It was super fun. I hope we can go again.

First Section of AT--Day Three

I woke up on day three and ate oatmeal for breakfast and then helped my mom and dad pack stuff up. It was a slow, easy morning, but my feet were really sore.
We started the morning with a hard hike up Garfield Mountain. Then we ran into a scary man on the trail. He was yelling and slurring his words, and it made mom and dad nervous, me too. Soon we started the long hike down, it flattened out later though. We stopped for lunch at a stream and there was this cute golden retriever and he was jumping in the water and drinking it, that dog put me in a good mood, because I was feeling really tired. After that, the trail was easier, but my feet hurt really bad and it was hard to keep going. A few hours later we made it out to the trail head of Garfield. I was so happy! Then we had to wait for our dad to come back with the car and while we waited we made a caterpillar circus!
We slept in the car the entire ride home. I cant wait until our next trip but I'm so glad I don't have to do that section again!

First AT section-Day Two

On day two of our trip I woke up very hungry and ate oatmeal. Then I helped mom fill up our water from the stream. It hurt to put my shoes and backpack back on because I was sore. It was a rough start!

The hike was very hard. There were lots of climbing rocks. But when we got to the top there were beautiful views! We climbed to the summit of Guyot and South Twin Mountain. It looked like there were no houses, just mountains and it was very windy.

My favorite snack was peanut butter m+m's, but we stopped at Galehead Hut and I ate a Hershey bar, and it was very good.

When we got to Garfield campsite I was so tired. I thought we would never get there. We camped in a little area and it looked like nobody could see us. We set up the tent and had an amazing dinner of cheese, tortilla, soup, and rice. We played UNO and went to sleep. I was glad the day was over!

First AT Section Day One

My family before our hike

On day one we woke up really early in the morning, at 2:30am. I was really tired but excited. We woke up so early in the morning that we saw a bobcat on the side of the road!

We started the hike at Ethan Pond Trail, on the AT, near Crawford Notch. When we started to hike I noticed that carrying a backpack is harder than I thought. We climbed for a while until we reached the top. There were amazing views! I felt like I was on the top off the world. My favorite trail snack was the "Boo bar" a yummy energy bar made by Banana (The trail and blog name of my sister).

The first night we planned to spend at Guyot shelter. When we got to the campsite I was starving and my feet were aching really bad. We had rice, tortillas, chicken, and soup. It was delicious! We slept in a shelter that fit 8 people but there were 16 people. I was squished! I slept next to a stranger on one side and daddy on the other. I didn't get much sleep.

Section Hiking the Appalachian Trail

Soon we will start our AT adventure. We have been busy packing our food, checking our gear and counting down the sleeps until we head into the woods. The first section we are hiking starts at Crawford Notch Sate Park. We hope to cover about 44 miles exiting at Kinsman Notch. I am so excited to walk all that way! Backpacking is the best! Well, wish us luck.
